2026 Queer Campout will be held Friday, August 28 - Sunday, August 30
Queer Campout

Activities & Info
Wisconsin Queer Campout is an annual adult summer camp fundraiser. Participants pay a subsidized price to attend the campout, and we use the profit to cover costs associated with gender-affirming surgery for a local individual (or multiple!) Community building is just as much a part of this event as the fundraising goal. For trans and/or BIPOC attendees who might not be able to cover the cost of camp, we offer "camperships" to help them cover part or all of the cost of camp, and can provide sleeping bags and sleeping mats to these campers, if needed. From Friday afternoon to Sunday morning, we gather in one large campsite to:
Put up tents and set up the campsite
Play group games and bond as a community
Cook meals, treats, and movie popcorn over a fire
Frolic at the beach
Tie-dye & screen print commemorative t-shirts
Share trans/queer joy in the outdoors

The Stormy Kito-Justice Surgery Fund

In memory of Stormy Kito-Justice
February 28, 1975 - March 3, 2026
Stormy Kito-Justice was a community leader for both the trans and Jewish community in Madison, WI. He was involved with multiple synagogues in leadership positions and completed a term on the board of Jewish Social Services. He was also a nurse at UW Health and Dane County Public Health. Stormy was proud to be a trans elder and spent many hours supporting local queer organizations and indiviudual peers with his time, experiential insight, public health knowledge, and big semi-professional football muscles.
In early 2026, Stormy became sick. He was diagnosed with highly aggressive pancreatic cancer and died on March 3, 2026 - about one month after his initial doctor's visits. Thanks to the love and generosity of the many communities and individuals who cherished him, he received support that allowed him to get married, travel to Africa, spend time with family and friends, and create memories before he passed.
Stormy was an ardent supporter of every project at Trans Wellness 509(a)(2), often sharing his knowledge, his passion for health, and his presence at events - especially during the many thankless hours of setup and teardown before and after the parts that are most enjoyable. Stormy's legacy lives on in all of the work at Trans Wellness. His excitement and spirit for camp endures especially in sports, quiet moments in nature, trans joy at the beach, and in the long drive from the camp storage to the campsite.
The Stormy Kito-Justice Surgery Fund is composed of Queer Campout attendance donations and individual donations which are awarded once per year to an individual getting a gender-affirming medical procedure. Fund recipients are able to use this money as they see fit to cover out-of-pocket costs for their procedure or living expenses during their recovery. This is vital support that can help folks access lifesaving healthcare that might otherwise be unaffordable.
Please consider donating to Queer Campout or to Stormy's GoFundMe if you're interested in supporting trans and gender non-conforming individuals directly!
